Title:
PRR 8706, FS-24M, 1960
Description:
Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, during November of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8704, #8706, and #8825. #8704 and #8706 are FS-24M's built by Fairbanks-Morse in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #8825 is an AS-16M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound coal train toward Gallitzin and the New Portage Tunnel. This photo taken from the State Route 53 Bridge just West of Gallitzin, which is visible in the distance. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.)
