Former Chicago Central caboose 199506 was on display at Delmar, Iowa on 6-4-2011. This view, IINM, faces the end wall behind the conductor's desk. Note the neatly labeled switch boxes and red-painted box for the "torpedoes" and cooling compound. I'm also pretty sure that's a handrail going through the center. Cabooses like these were once part of nearly every train in the USA; now only a few survive but displays like this will continue to keep the story of American railroading alive for years to come. |
