Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6001 and #6038. Both are EF-25A's built in 1965 by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #6001 was built in February, while #6038 was built in May. They're serving as tail-end pushers on a 95-car iron-ore train that's entered the Hollidaysburg Branch line to Duncansville. Then they'll follow the New Portage Branch line up the Allegheny Mountains ~ via the Muleshoe Curve ~ to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. The focal-orange-painted N-5C cabin car is #477898. Also visible is the interlocking directly in front of ALTO Tower (not shown at the right) and the headlight beam from an on-coming mineral train pulled by PRR engine #8570. Photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge. (#18 of 21) |
