For many years the small South Australia rail town of Tailem Bend has been the place where additional power was added to trains before they took on the up-to-2.5% grades of the Adelaide Hills. On this quiet Saturday morning Pacific National has a pair of units waiting to be added as "bankers" (helpers) to get a westbound container train over the hills. DL-class DL39 is a 1988-built 3300HP Clyde/GM, model AT42C. |
