Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916, this 2-8-2 Mikado was an ATSF class 3129. It had smaller 58" drivers than other later models, developed 200 psi boiler pressure, and generated a respectable 58,621 lb of tractive effort. According to a note on the back of the photo, this loco is sitting in a scrap line at a Chicago yard. The photo was taken by photographer Anderson on 116 size film. According to the Baldwin records, the loco was finally sold for scrap to M.S. Kaplan on 8/7/1953 so it sat for nearly 6 years in the scrap line. Original specs - 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine weight of 348,400 lb, and tractive effort of 63,000 lb. |
