Description:  Despite CP running quite a few SOO units on the D&H once they got a few years into their takeover, there were relatively few of the ex MILW "bandit patch" engines seen here. This one has been sold to Helm, and is southbound on a 261 at BX. Today's train has 10 stack platforms and 51 TOFC.

Running solo
Title:  Running solo
Description:  Sometimes-not often, because despite the mostly river running, there were a couple of stiff grades on the line-trains would run with a single unit. Todays 252, the HAN job, headed to the NYSW and Jersey was one such train. I didnt get a car count on this train, but its already made the hard part of the trip, and should have an easy roll into Binghamton. The hoppers at left are sitting in the NYSEG Hickling Station, which had a capacity of about 12 cars on its siding. It was not one of the more efficient plants, and would soon be closed.

Growing up

Description:  Earlier this year, I shot BUOI here in a spring scene with the forsythia in bloom, and the green trees still short. Theyre getting bigger, now starting to obscure the train. In a couple of years, theyll make a photo here impossible. A GATX leader has what looks like is an 892 coal train. Note the PLM unit. It is in an SD45 carbody, and was one of the EMD test bed units for the 645 engine in the 1960's.

Description:  Except for the NYSW unit leading. Even a year into the CP operation of the D&H, NYSW power still showed up on a variety of trains that were not the normal stack train run throughs from Jersey to Buffalo. Here we have one of the B 40s leading 309 with three more units and 42 cars, coming througn BX into East Binghamton from Mechanicville. There are two notable units in the consist. PLM 3041 is one of the EMD 645 engine test bed units, and trailing is one of the few RS 36's legt on the roster, 5023.
