Here is another example of the white "Rocky the Goat" logo on a black background encircled in red. This was a common logo in the 1950-80's. The all steel 40'6" boxcar with a 6' sliding and 6' plug doors was built by the Great Northern Shops starting in 1960, part of a 500 car order. Nice large "Rocky the Goat" circle logo (white Rocky on black background with red encirlcling). In addition, we have a separate "Rocky" advertising the "Cushioned Ride" boxcar. The all steel 50'6" boxcar was built by American Car & Foundry in 1964 with a 9' plug door, one of a 200 car order. The image comes from the original negative now in my collection photograed by Hoosier rail fan Dick Berry. |

Nice image if a covered hopper with "Rocky the Great Northern Goat" logo. This form of the logo dates back to 1936 with variations in colors used and some wording variations as well. The 51'2" covered hopper was built by the American Car & Foundry starting in 1965, part of a 100 car order.It had a 4,650 cu.ft capacity and 3 outlets. The image comes from the original negative now in my collection and photograed by Hoosier rail fan Dick Berry. |

WHI Reefer #70606 - Western Fruit Express (Great Northern leasee) |

Good example of the "modern" Rocky the Goat logo with bladk Rocky on a reefer yellow background. Unfortunately, the b&w photo doesn't show the colors. The car was built by the Pacific CAr & Foundry (operated by the Great Northern) circa 1953. It had ice bunkers with circulation fans and was equipped with plug doors.
